Tampa Bay Beauty
Tampa Bay is very well known for its beautiful Gulf Coast Beaches – the weather makes it a year round vacation. These beautiful white sand beaches are located along Florida’s West coast, alongside the Gulf of Mexico. One of the most famous beaches, Ft. Desoto Park, has been featured in TV and magazine articles. It was named America’s #1 beach in 2005.
Clearwater Beach, is known for having the “most days of sunshine” according to the Guinness Book of World Records. Gorgeous, warm sunsets are a favorite feature of Clearwater Beach. Another Bay Area city is Tarpon Springs. It has the largest percentage of Greek-Americans of any city in the U.S. and is known as the “Sponge Capital of the World”. The city of Tampa alone has a very unique cultural heritage.
Living in Tampa Bay
The Latin Quarter - Ybor City, was once known as the “Cigar Capital of the World”. The Historic District of Ybor City consists of Cuban, Italian, Greek, Spanish and French cultural influences. Tampa Bay offers sporting events for every fan. Tampa is home to the NFL Super Bowl Champions Tampa Bay Buccaneers and NHL Stanley Cup Champions Tampa Bay Lightning. Only Tampa can boast of having a Stanley Cup Champion hockey team and no snow. Locals are proud to host NY Yankees Spring Training at Legends Field. Many Super Bowls and the annual College Football New Years Day Outback Bowl have been hosted in Tampa Bay. Some the year round attractions include Busch Gardens, Adventure Island, Museum of Science & Industry, Dinosaur World and Salvador Dali Museum and the St. Pete Pier.
Events and Festivals
Some of the best events to enjoy in the Tampa Bay Area are the Florida State Fair in Tampa, Florida Strawberry Festival in Plant City, Bern’s WineFest in Tampa and Guavaween (Latin Style Halloween Night Festival) in Tampa for the more daring. The Most Famous Event in Tampa could be the Annual Gasparilla Pirate Festival. Hundreds of Pirates invade Tampa on the Jose Gaspar Pirate ship and the mayor surrenders the key to the city. The Gasparilla Parade draws over half a million people every year and it is Tampa’s version of Mardi gras. There is also an untamed night version of this parade – the Illuminated Sant’Yago Knight Parade in Ybor City. Again, only the daring attend. The Gasparilla Day parade is along Bayshore Boulevard – the “world’s longest continuous sidewalk” - 4 1/2 miles. On any given time of the day you’ll find rollerbladers, runners, bikers and power walkers along Bayshore Boulevard. This sidewalk links South Tampa and Downtown Tampa. One side of Bayshore Boulevard is lined with stately historic homes and towering million dollar condo high rises while the other has the view of the Bay. More importantly headquartered south of Bayshore Boulevard is the United States Military Central Command – MacDill AirForce Base.
Tampa Bay, Florida continues to draw people because of the great weather, having sunshine most of the year. Temperatures rarely dip below 30 degrees. The Tampa Bay Area does get its fair share of rain and is called the “Lightning Capital of the United States”.
